Dinosaur Toys (2000)
In 2000, McDonald’s did a promotion for the Disney CGI movie Dinosaur which featured a group of prehistoric dinosaurs trying to make their way to the “Nesting Grounds” after a destructive meteor hits Earth. Kids who saw this movie in theaters were also thrilled to get dinosaur toys in their Happy Meals. The Dinosaur toys included hand puppets and talking toys of characters like Aladar the Iguanodon, the wisecracking lemur Zini, the elderly dinosaur Baylene, and Aladar’s adopted “grandparents” Yar and Plio. Bringing these dinosaurs to life with your own hands was a roaring good time.
Brother Bear Toys (2003)
Another animal-centric Disney movie, 2003’s Brother Bear, focused on the journey of a human named Kenai who gets magically transformed into a bear. The Happy Meal toys for this movie included plush versions of characters like Kenai the bear, the bear cub Koda, and the hilarious moose brothers Rutt and Tuke. These soft, huggable toys let kids snuggle up with some of their favorite Brother Bear characters and act out scenes from the movie.
The Emperor’s New Groove Toys (2000)
Disney took a wackier turn in 2000 with The Emperor’s New Groove, an animated buddy comedy starring a selfish Incan emperor named Kuzco who gets turned into a llama. McDonald’s matched the movie’s zany energy with Happy Meal toys featuring mini versions of characters like Kuzco, the kind peasant Pacha, and the nefarious advisor Yzma. Kids could recreate hilarious scenes like Kuzco’s transformation or Yzma’s attempts to poison Kuzco with her bubbling potion cauldron toy.
Ty Teenie Beanie Babies (2000)
The Beanie Babies craze reached its peak in the late 90s, but it had plenty of staying power into the 2000s as well. In 2000, McDonald’s did a Happy Meal promotion featuring Ty Teenie Beanie Babies, which were miniature versions of the popular plush toys. There were 18 different Teenie Beanies to collect, including cute critters like Chocolate the Moose, Splash the Whale, and Gigi the Poodle. Kids went crazy trying to collect the whole set of these petite plush pals.
Disney’s Tarzan Toys (2000)
In addition to dwarfed dinosaurs and pint-sized Beanies, 2000 also gave us Happy Meal toys from the Disney movie Tarzan. Kids could swing through the trees with a miniature vinyl Tarzan figure, roar along with Terk the gorilla, or explore the jungle with Jane. The Tarzan toys brought the excitement of the movie right into Happy Meals.
Chicken Run Toys (2000)
Moving from Disney to DreamWorks, 2000 also saw toys for the hit claymation movie Chicken Run. The Chicken Run Happy Meal toys focused on the film’s desperate chickens trying to escape from a chicken farm. Kids could recreate scenes with Ginger, Rocky, Fowler, and more. The chicken coop playset was especially fun for acting out prison break attempts.

The Incredibles Toys (2004)
Also in 2004 was a set of toys for Disney and Pixar’s The Incredibles, which focused on a family of superheroes. The Happy Meal Incredibles toys featured Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and their kids Dash and Violet. Each toy had a unique action feature, like Mr. Incredible’s massive strength, Elastigirl’s stretchy arms, Dash’s super-speed, and Violet’s force field. Playing out superhero adventures with these toys was absolutely incredible.
102 Dalmatians Toys (2000)
Sticking with the animal theme, 2000 also gave us toys for 102 Dalmatians, the live-action sequel to Disney’s beloved 101 Dalmatians. The Dalmatian puppies were once again the stars, represented through toys like sliding dog houses that could open to reveal the spotted pups inside. Kids could recreate hilarious hijinks with these playful pooch toys.
Hot Wheels (Various Years)
No discussion of McDonald’s toys in the 2000s would be complete without mentioning Hot Wheels. The iconic die-cast toy cars have been a McDonald’s mainstay for decades, always making appearances in Happy Meals with new miniature vehicles for kids to zoom around. They were especially prevalent in the 2000s, partnering with McDonald’s for multiple promotions each year. From flashy sports cars to rugged off-road trucks, Hot Wheels offered endless fun and variety.
SpongeBob SquarePants (Various Years)
SpongeBob SquarePants dominated kids’ TV in the 2000s, and McDonald’s frequently featured toys based on the absorbent and yellow and porous sea sponge. Various Happy Meal promotions included SpongeBob, Patrick, and other Bikini Bottom residents in action figure, plush, and playset form. Kids delighted in acting out their favorite SpongeBob episodes or making up new adventures with the toys.
Nintendo Toys (Various Years)
What’s a 2000s McDonald’s toy lineup without some love for Nintendo? Multiple Happy Meal promotions included toys featuring Mario, Luigi, Link, Pikachu, and other iconic Nintendo characters. Whether getting a Mario Kart race car, a Poké Ball with Pikachu inside, or a Link action figure, Nintendo toys were always a popular choice. They let kids bring video game adventures to real life in toy form.
Saddle Club Toys (2003)
In 2003, McDonald’s did a promotion based on The Saddle Club, a popular book series and TV show about teen girls who share a love of horseback riding. The Happy Meal toys for The Saddle Club included the main girl characters, their horses, and equestrian accessories like saddles, brushes, and riding helmets. For horse-crazy kids, these toys made for hours of equine entertainment.
McDonald’s Happy Meal toys in the 2000s marked a high point for creativity, quality, and pop culture synergy. The toys expertly tapped into major entertainment franchises that defined the childhoods of Millennials. Kids couldn’t wait to get the latest detailed movie tie-in figures, plush versions of their favorite TV characters, or toys featuring beloved video game icons. Improved design and durable materials allowed for vigorous interactive play. And with each new promotion came the thrill of collecting a complete toy set by visiting McDonald’s again and again. The 2000s toys perfectly aligned with the media and technology trends that were shaping the world of kids and teens. They brought beloved characters and stories to life while also stimulating imagination. For the kids that grew up in that era, McDonald’s Happy Meal toys in the 2000s hold a special nostalgic place.
